A dramatic cliff-backed cove between Kings Beach and The Bluff at Encounter Bay - one of the best whale and dolphin viewing spots on the Heritage Walking Trail.

Between Kings Beach and The Bluff

Petrel Cove sits between Kings Beach and the granite dome of The Bluff (Rosetta Head) on the southern coast of Encounter Bay. It is a small, cliff-backed cove that you reach via the Heritage Walking Trail from the Bluff carpark - a short, steep walk.

What to look out for

The cove is a known whale and dolphin viewing spot - in winter you can sometimes see southern right whales close to shore from the clifftop above. Bottlenose dolphins are reliable year-round.

Practical

Free, walk-in only. The descent to the beach itself is steep and rocky - most visitors stop at the clifftop viewing area. Combine with a climb up The Bluff for the full experience.
