Waitpinga Beach

A wild, exposed surf beach inside Newland Head Conservation Park. No swimming, no facilities, and often empty - one of the most dramatic beaches on the south coast.

Wild and remote

Waitpinga Beach sits at the western end of Newland Head Conservation Park, a short drive from Victor Harbor down Waitpinga Road. The beach is a 3km stretch of open Southern Ocean coastline with heavy, unforgiving swell and strong rips - it is not a swimming beach, and the signage at the carpark makes that very clear.

What it's for

Waitpinga is for walking, for photography, for experienced surfers, and for whale watching in winter. The carpark sits on a bluff above the sand with sweeping views along the coast to Parsons Beach and the cliffs of the Waitpinga walk.

The Heysen Trail

The Heysen Trail runs right along the clifftops above the beach, making this one of the most spectacular sections of the 1,200km trail. You can park at Waitpinga, walk east along the cliffs, and drop down to Parsons Beach in about an hour.
