Green Bay

A secret cove between the Port Elliot headlands

A tiny tucked-away cove between Rocky Bay and Knights Beach, reached via the Harbourmasters Trail. Calm days bring crystal-clear water for snorkelling; rough days bring dramatic wave shows.

The hidden Port Elliot beach

Green Bay is a narrow 200-metre inlet of fine white sand wedged between granite headlands on the south-eastern side of Port Elliot. Most visitors walk straight past it on their way to Horseshoe Bay or Knights Beach, which is exactly why locals love it. Clear, sheltered water on calm days makes it popular for a quick snorkel among the rocks.

What visitors do

Swim, snorkel, fish from the flanking rocks, or simply find a nook on the sand and watch the swell pound the granite on windier days. Dogs are allowed on-lead. Facilities are minimal - this is a nature spot, not a resort beach - but a small car park at the top of the track keeps the walk-in short. Be aware there is no lifeguard and rips can appear in bigger swell.

Practical notes

Access is via a signed track off the Harbourmasters Walking Trail, or by a short spur from the small Green Bay car park off Freeman Street. A public toilet is back at the Horseshoe Bay foreshore. The beach is most photogenic an hour before sunset when the granite glows pink.
