Station Masters Art Gallery

Local art in the old Strathalbyn Railway Station

A community art gallery run by the Strathalbyn Arts Society, housed in the beautifully restored old Strathalbyn Railway Station on South Terrace.

Art in a railway station

The Station Masters Art Gallery occupies the old Strathalbyn Railway Station, a State-heritage-listed building that once served the Adelaide-to-Milang and Adelaide-to-Victor Harbor lines. The gallery is run by the Strathalbyn Arts Society and features a continually rotating program of works by local and regional artists.

What you'll find

The gallery typically hangs work by members of the Arts Society - paintings, drawings, photography, ceramics and textile art - with regular themed exhibitions throughout the year. Many of the works are for sale directly from the artists.

The building

The old railway station is worth a visit in its own right. Built in 1884, it is one of the best-preserved regional railway stations in South Australia. The platform, ticket windows and signal arm are all still in place, and heritage interpretive panels tell the story of the railway era on the Fleurieu.
