Soldiers Memorial Gardens

Riverside park at the heart of Strathalbyn

A beautiful riverside park at the centre of Strathalbyn, following the River Angas through the heritage town with lawns, ponds, picnic tables and the town's war memorial.

A park in the middle of town

The Soldiers Memorial Gardens run along both sides of the River Angas through the centre of Strathalbyn. The park is the green heart of the town, with formal lawns, mature shade trees, duck ponds, picnic tables and the town's Soldiers Memorial - a granite obelisk that remembers Strathalbyn's war dead.

What to do

  • Picnic - tables and barbecues are spread along the river bank
  • Feed the ducks - a Strathalbyn tradition for local families
  • Walk the river path - a gentle, flat walking path runs the length of the gardens and under the historic bridges
  • Photograph St Andrew's Church - the best angle is from the gardens looking up to the bluestone tower
  • Stop at the playground - the gardens include a children's playground at one end

Events

The gardens host the Strathalbyn Collectors Hobbies and Antiques Fair each August - one of the biggest antiques events in South Australia.
