Sandergrove Methodist Chapel Ruins

Sandergrove Methodist Chapel Ruins

The atmospheric stone ruins of an 1860s Methodist chapel and cemetery in the small Sandergrove locality near Strathalbyn.

A ruined country chapel

The Sandergrove Methodist Chapel was built in the 1860s to serve the small farming community of Sandergrove between Strathalbyn and Goolwa. The congregation dwindled through the early 20th century and the chapel was eventually abandoned, but the stone walls and the small adjoining cemetery remain in place on a quiet rural lot.

What you'll see

The roofless stone walls of the chapel, the original cemetery with weathered headstones from the 19th century, and a peaceful country setting that feels older than the surrounding farmland. A quiet 15-minute heritage stop on the Strathalbyn-to-Goolwa drive.
