The largest conservation area on the Fleurieu Peninsula, with 15 walking trails through eucalypt forest, waterfalls, ocean clifftops and views to Kangaroo Island.

Wild Fleurieu

Deep Creek National Park (formerly Deep Creek Conservation Park) protects 4,500 hectares of eucalypt forest, deep river valleys, ocean clifftops and hidden waterfalls on the southern tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is the largest protected area on the peninsula and a critical habitat for kangaroos, western grey bandicoots, echidnas and over 100 bird species.

Walks

The park has 15 marked walking trails ranging from easy family strolls to multi-day sections of the Heysen Trail. Highlights include:

  • Deep Creek Waterfall Hike (3.5km return): A gentle walk to a picturesque waterfall, including a short section of the Heysen Trail.
  • Forest Circuit Walk: An easy loop through tall stringybark forest.
  • Aaron's Creek: A moderate walk with sweeping views to Kangaroo Island across Backstairs Passage.
  • Deep Creek Cove: A steep descent to a wild, hidden beach at the base of the park's sandstone cliffs.

Practicalities

  • Vehicle entry fees apply (book online at parks.sa.gov.au)
  • Camping is available at four grounds including Stringybark, Tapanappa and Trig
  • Facilities: toilets, picnic tables, some drinking water
  • Access via Tent Rock Road and Range Road from Main South Road
  • Note: part of the park was affected by the February 2026 bushfire - check Parks SA for trail closures before visiting
