Christies Beach
A long, sheltered family beach at the northern gateway to the Fleurieu, with a foreshore playground, boardwalk and a popular surf life saving club.
Northern Fleurieu family beach
Christies Beach is one of the first beaches you hit coming south from Adelaide, sitting just north of the Onkaparinga River mouth. The beach is broad, gently shelving and sheltered from the prevailing south-westerlies by the Port Noarlunga headland, which makes it one of the more reliable swimming spots on this stretch of coast.
Foreshore and boardwalk
The foreshore has a big grassed reserve, a playground, picnic shelters, BBQs and a boardwalk running south toward Port Noarlunga. Cafes and takeaway are a short walk up Beach Road. The SLSC patrols in season.
What to do
Swimming, beach cricket, long walks along the boardwalk, and rock-hopping at the southern end where the sandstone reef starts. The Onkaparinga River mouth is just to the south and worth walking down to.
