An iconic 1920s train carriage on Main Road McLaren Vale that has been a roadside almond, olive oil and pantry-goods stop for more than 25 years.

A train on the highway

The Almond Train is exactly what its name says - a heritage 1920s railway carriage parked permanently beside the Shiraz Trail on Main Road in McLaren Vale, converted into a small but densely-stocked specialty food shop. It has been there for more than 25 years and is one of the unmistakable McLaren Vale roadside landmarks.

What's inside

South Australia's largest range of flavoured almonds (raw, roasted, smoked, salted, sweet, dukkah-coated, chocolate-covered), local olive oils, jams, chutneys, dukkah, dried fruit and chocolate bars. Free daily tastings - the staff hand out almonds across the counter while you browse.

Where it sits

Directly on the Shiraz Trail rail-trail bike path, so it doubles as a refuelling stop for cyclists. A 5-minute walk from central McLaren Vale.
