Mount Magnificent Conservation Park
A 90-hectare conservation park north-east of Mount Compass with a 3.5 km Heysen Trail summit loop offering big views to Lake Alexandrina, the Coorong and the coast.
A summit walk on the Heysen Trail
Mount Magnificent Conservation Park sits north-east of Mount Compass and is best known for the Heysen Trail summit loop - a 3.5 km return walk to the rocky top of Mount Magnificent. The Heysen Trail itself runs over the summit, so you can extend the walk in either direction along the long-distance trail.
The view
From the summit you can see Lake Alexandrina to the east, the Coorong to the south-east, and on a clear day all the way back to the McLaren Vale plains and the Gulf St Vincent coast. It is one of the better short walks for big views on the central Fleurieu.
Practical
Free entry. Some scrambling at the summit; suitable for families with older kids. Bring water and a hat.
