Cox Scrub Conservation Park
A 563-hectare bushland park near Mount Compass with three quiet walking trails through native scrub - one of the best birdwatching reserves on the Fleurieu.
A quiet bushland reserve
Cox Scrub Conservation Park sits east of Mount Compass and protects 563 hectares of original Fleurieu scrub - mallee, banksia, sheoak and grass tree understorey. It is genuinely quiet bushwalking country, with three distinct trails of varying lengths winding through the reserve. You will rarely meet anyone else on the tracks.
Birdwatching
The scrub is one of the better birding spots on the Peninsula. Honeyeaters, thornbills, robins, fantails and the elusive southern emu-wren all turn up here. Mornings and late afternoons are best.
Practical
Free entry, free parking. There are no facilities at the park beyond a basic carpark - bring water and a hat. Check the conditions in summer as fire restrictions can close the park.
