A tiny sandstone cove flanked by dramatically folded cliffs and a heritage jetty, and one of the most photographed coastlines in South Australia.
A hidden jewel
Second Valley Beach is a small, intimate cove reached via a short road from Main South Road. Its dramatically folded sandstone cliffs (the result of ancient tectonic pressure), a heritage timber jetty, crystal-clear water and a freshwater creek flowing onto the sand make it one of the most photographed places in South Australia.
What to do
- Swimming in sheltered, shallow water
- Rock pooling in the limestone platforms either side of the cove
- Snorkelling around the jetty
- The Heysen Trail passes just above the beach, with a popular coastal walk east to Rapid Bay or west to Wirrina Cove
- Pier fishing from the jetty
There's a small car park near the jetty and basic public toilets. Bring your own food - there is no shop on the beach itself.
