Hugh Hamilton Wines

Sixth-generation McLaren Vale family

Sixth-generation Hamilton family winery with a distinctive circular cellar door and a reputation for Rare Breed Saperavi and other unusual varietals.

Six generations of winemaking

The Hamilton family has been making wine in South Australia since 1837, making them Australia's oldest winemaking family. Hugh Hamilton Wines is the current expression of the family, led by Hugh and Mary Hamilton and daughter Mary Hamilton, and is known for its willingness to experiment with unusual varietals alongside traditional McLaren Vale Shiraz and Cabernet.

The Black Sheep Range

The Black Sheep Range features lesser-known grapes like Saperavi, Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Viognier - a tongue-in-cheek nod to the family's willingness to go against the grain.

Cellar door

The striking round cellar door, known as The Roundhouse, sits on McMurtrie Road and offers seated tastings with sweeping views over the vineyards.
