The start of an epic walk
The Heysen Trail is South Australia's great long-distance walking trail, stretching 1,200km from Cape Jervis to Parachilna Gorge in the Flinders Ranges. The official southern trailhead is located in the carpark at the SeaLink ferry terminal at Cape Jervis, where a weathered wooden sign marks the starting point.
Section 1: Cape Jervis to Cobbler Hill
The first section of the trail is 12.5km from the Cape Jervis trailhead to Cobbler Hill Campsite (5-7 hours walking). It follows sandy coastal tracks and exposed coastal hillsides with spectacular views over Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island. The terrain is moderate with some steep climbs and is best walked in autumn, winter or early spring when conditions are cooler.
