Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram

The 1894 tram to Granite Island

The only operating horse-drawn tram in Australia, running since 1894 across the causeway to Granite Island.

A living piece of history

The Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram is the only surviving double-decker horse tram system in Australia, operating since 1894. The big Clydesdale and Percheron horses pull double-decker wooden carriages along a 630m track across the causeway from the foreshore to Granite Island.

Riding the tram

The tram runs every day except Christmas Day (weather permitting), departing from near the SA Whale Centre on Railway Terrace. Each round trip takes about 25 minutes. Tickets can be purchased on the day from the kiosk at the tram stop.
