Mount Billy Conservation Park

A high-rainfall conservation park in the Inman Valley protecting some of the last Fleurieu Peninsula swamps and a network of bushwalking tracks through tall stringybark forest.

High-rainfall forest

Mount Billy Conservation Park sits in the higher, wetter country of the Inman Valley, where the rainfall is enough to support tall stringybark forests and high-elevation woodlands you do not see elsewhere on the Peninsula. The park also protects examples of the rare perched Fleurieu Peninsula swamps - shallow wetlands sitting on top of impermeable clay layers, home to several endemic plant species.

The walks

Walking tracks lead through the forest and around the steeply dissected gullies, with sections that follow the headwaters of the Inman River. The full circuit takes about half a day; shorter walks are signposted at the carpark.

What to look out for

The high rainfall makes this one of the lushest bushwalking destinations on the Fleurieu - tree ferns, fungi after autumn rain, and a rich understorey. Echidnas, kangaroos and a long bird list. Spring is the best time for wildflowers.
