Aldinga Washpool & Blue Lagoon

A coastal freshwater lagoon system inside Aldinga Conservation Park, with 166+ recorded bird species including hooded plover, mistletoebirds and rainbow bee-eaters.

A coastal lagoon system

The Aldinga Washpool and adjoining Blue Lagoon are a small but biologically rich freshwater lagoon system tucked behind the dunes at Aldinga Beach inside the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park. The lagoons are fed by groundwater and stay full year-round, making them a magnet for water birds.

Birds

More than 166 species recorded, including the threatened hooded plover, rainbow bee-eaters, mistletoebirds, kingfishers and a long list of waders and waterfowl. The dunes between the lagoons and the beach are also good habitat for reptiles and marsupials.

Visiting

Free, walk-in access from the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park trailheads. The walk in from the carpark to the lagoons is short and flat.
