A 428-hectare wetland on the north-west shore of Lake Alexandrina with bird hides - one of South Australia's premier sites for migratory waders and waterfowl.

A wader hotspot

Tolderol Game Reserve protects 428 hectares of constructed wetland and natural fringing habitat on the north-west shore of Lake Alexandrina. The reserve is managed for waterfowl and migratory waders and is one of the most reliable bird-spotting sites in southern Australia, particularly during the southern spring and summer when migratory species arrive from the northern hemisphere.

Birds and hides

More than 200 species have been recorded - migratory waders, ducks, swans, ibis, spoonbills, raptors and the occasional rare visitor. Several timber bird hides are dotted around the wetland for quiet observation. Bring binoculars.

Practical

Free entry. The reserve is signposted off the Wellington-Goolwa road north of Milang. There are no facilities at the hides themselves - bring water and a hat.
