Magpie Springs

Boutique wines and paintings on Willunga Hill

A boutique cellar door and working art gallery on the Willunga scarp, showcasing estate wines alongside paintings by Adelaide artist Avril Thomas in a garden setting with valley views.

Wine and art under one roof

Magpie Springs sits on Brookman Road just above Willunga Hill, where artist Avril Thomas has built a working studio, cellar door and leafy picnic garden. Tastings feature the estate's boutique reds, whites and rose, while the adjoining gallery hangs Thomas's celebrated portraits and landscapes. The property is dog and family friendly and set up for long, lingering visits.

What visitors do

Book a seated tasting flight and add a grazing platter of local cheese, cured meats and house preserves. Between sips, wander the gallery or stretch out on the lawns with a glass. Kangaroos are regular early-morning visitors. The venue is also popular for weddings, so weekends can be busy; phone ahead for larger groups.

Practical notes

The cellar door opens Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 11am to 5pm. It's about a ten-minute drive from Willunga township, up the famous Old Willunga Hill climb. There is ample on-site parking, outdoor seating, and step-free access to the main deck.
