Bullaparinga Cemetery

One of the Fleurieu's earliest rural cemeteries - laid out in 1858 with first burials in 1859, set in the rolling Delamere hills.

A pioneer cemetery

Bullaparinga Cemetery is one of the oldest rural cemeteries on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The grounds were laid out in 1858 and the first burials took place in 1859. The cemetery contains many of the original 19th-century settler families of the southern Fleurieu and is still in occasional use today.

The setting

The cemetery sits on Bullaparinga Road in a quiet bend of the rolling Delamere hill country. There is no fanfare - a small carpark, a wrought-iron gate, and the headstones spreading out across the slope. A quiet, atmospheric stop for visitors interested in colonial history.
