Myponga Reservoir Reserve

Walking, kayaking and fishing at a SA Water reservoir

A 250-hectare SA Water reservoir opened to the public for walking, kayaking, fishing and picnics, with a spectacular lookout over the dam wall and spillway.

From closed reservoir to public reserve

Myponga Reservoir is a working SA Water reservoir that was opened to the public in 2021 for the first time in its history. The 250-hectare body of water sits in rolling green hills on the inland side of the Fleurieu Peninsula, about an hour's drive south of Adelaide.

What to do

  • Walking trails - 6km of unsealed trails run along the south-eastern side of the reservoir, including four named and waymarked walks. The trails are mostly gentle and some sections are suitable for wheelchairs and prams
  • Lookout - a viewing point above the dam wall gives a spectacular view over the reservoir, the dam wall and (when flowing) the spillway
  • Kayak and canoe - you can paddle on the reservoir (BYO boat), a beautiful, unusual experience
  • Shore fishing - fishing is allowed from the publicly accessible shoreline
  • Picnic tables are spread along the trail network
  • Cycling - the main trail network is shared between walkers and cyclists

Visiting

  • Open: 7:30am - 5pm (standard time), 7:30am - 8pm (daylight saving time)
  • Free entry
  • Free parking and toilets at the main carpark
  • Dogs: check SA Water's current rules before visiting
  • About 10 minutes drive from Myponga township
