Tour Down Under - Willunga Hill Stage
UCI WorldTour climb, January
The climb of the tour
The Santos Tour Down Under is the first UCI WorldTour event of the cycling season, and the Willunga Hill stage is its most famous. Riders race out of Old Willunga, turn onto Range Road and climb the steep switchbacks to the top of Willunga Hill - often twice - with a summit finish that has decided the general classification more than once.
Watching
The climb lines with spectators every year. Most viewers walk in from the Willunga end - bring water, snacks, sunscreen and a camera. The atmosphere along the climb on a sunny January afternoon is unforgettable.
When
Traditionally held in January as part of the Tour Down Under. Dates and exact stages change each year - check the official Tour Down Under site for the current program.
